On May 20, 2018, Bethesda Lutheran Church (New Haven, CT) honored beloved musician and friend Lars Gjerde with a surprise performance during his final Sunday service as music director. Soloists, choir, instruments and piano (all members of the church) premiered “Gloria,” a new gospel-infused setting of the familiar text from Christian liturgy. The work was commissioned by Bethesda to celebrate Gjerde’s wonderful tenure at the church, and it was composed by Connecticut composer (and Bethesda member) Christopher M. Lee.
